About Our Doctors Richard E. George, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. George was born in San Antonio,Texas. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology with honors from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas. He attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch – Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. Dr. George completed an internship in general surgery under Dr. Michael DeBakey at the Baylor College of Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals. He continued at the Baylor College of Medicine and completed his residency in neurosurgery. In June of 1989, Dr. George completed a full year fellowship in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Dr. George then joined the faculty at the Baylor College of Medicine with the department of neurosurgery. He remained in Houston Texas for three years with joint appointment at M.D. Anderson Hospital and Cancer Institute and Baylor College of Medicine.
In July of 1993, Dr. George and his family moved to Lubbock, Texas and joined the department of surgery at Texas Tech University Health Science Center. Eventually Dr. George pursued the independence of private practice; he joined Dr. Paul Myer and Dr. Harold Smith starting Neurosurgical Associates. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, the Texas Medical Association, and the Lubbock-Crosby-Garza County Medical Society. He is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons.
Dr. George is happily married with eight children. He enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.
